Reverence for the Right Reasons
Job is known as one of the most faithful men in the Bible (Ezekial 14:14). We are introduced to him in the book that bears his name, in the first verse, where the Spirit tells us that he "was blameless and upright, one who feared the Lord and shunned evil."
He suffered more loss than is imaginable to most people, yet he kept his faith and reverence in God. How. Did. He. Do. It?
Every one of us who are in our right mind knows that we are bound to suffer to some extent at some point in the future, whether it be a serious illness or injury, natural disaster or tragedy, or the death of someone we love dearly.
If you have faith now, don't you want to still have it when these things come along, to help you endure it? It is possible, for Job was just a man himself, and he was able to endure because of his faith. So how did Job come to have his own faith? The accuser (Satan) said he only revered God because God had blessed him.
This sermon examines the claim made by the devil, and seeks to understand the only way our faith in Yahweh can be strong enough to get us through the most difficult times in our lives.
