CONSEQUENCES OF SIN

Glenn Blankenship "CONSEQUENCES OF SIN"

Sin is not a group effort.  While we may sin at the same time in the same incident, we all are making our own choices.  But the consequences or effect of sin is not confined to the sinner.

Israel was instructed not to remove any of the items devoted to idols from the city of Jericho, but Achan disobeyed.  He hid his sin.  The Israelites were defeated at AI because of his sin and 36 men died.  One man's sin fueled God's anger against all of the people.

Achan's sin, Joshua 7

>Reproach upon the congregation

Josh 6:18; 7:1, 4-5, 11-12; I Cor 5:6

>Reproach upon entire family tree

Josh 7:1, 7-18

>God's wrath upon whole camp

Josh 7:1, 12

>Punishment brought upon others

Josh 7:24-25, 5

Our sins affect our families, our church, even people we don't know.

Achan sinned, he received punishment for his sin, but others suffered punishment also.

Sin is horrible.  God takes it seriously.  Do we see sin as a disgrace?  Are we outraged?

Do we realize our own sin?  I Cor. 11:28

Realization brings repentance.  Repentance brings redemption.
