"May the Lord give strength to his people!

May the Lord bless his people with peace!"

Glenn Blankenship "Walking According to Our Own Desires"

It's hard to tell someone the truth, when the truth is hard to hear.  It's not what they desire to hear.  Too many times we allow ourselves to be controlled by a want not a need.

Truth rarely aligns with our desires.  Regardless, TRUTH must be taught.

*Contend for the ONE Faith v3

We are in a fight to win against error and defiance.

Eph 4:5  "There is one faith..."  There may be other gospels (faiths) originated by man but there is only one true faith.

Gal 1:8 "if anyone preaches a gospel other than the one you received they are to be accursed"

*With those whom

>Deny the ONLY master and lord, Jesus Christ (v 4; Jn 14:6)

If you tell someone the truth in love and according to scriptural design, but they don't talk to you again, or even leave the church, that will be hard.  But we must realize they have chosen to deny God.

Jn 14:6 - "no one can come to the father but by me"

> Despise authority (v 8; Jn 12: 42-50)

Christ's authority comes from God, the father, just as ours does.

>Only interested in self

^Nurture/care for only self (v12) - selfishness is dangerous

^Walk according to their own desires (v16,18)

These people were discontent and grumbled because they did not get their way.  This caused them to ignore others needs.  They were not concerned with God's way.

            ^Arrogant (v 16)

This type of person is always talking about their good deeds, achievements.

^ Do things for their own advantage (v 16)

it's not about God's kingdom; it's about looking for favor for      themselves

A Picture of These People

1) v 4  They've come in secretly - they are among us; or are working their way in.

2) v 5  God has punished His people and he will not spare these who bring contention among the church

There may be many qualities of these people that make us comfortable with them

    1) They look like us

    2)  They make us feel good about ourselves

-this can make it hard to address issues with those whom we need to contend with

            a) someone in sin Gal 6:1

            b) those who support "other truths

We must not "water down" the truth.

We must contend for The Faith.
